Today\’s quote comes to us from Republican Senator, and presidential candidate, Marco Rubio — which, so help me, I read after posting after posting the previous blog, not before.
Mr. Rubio, who is on record as opposing legal gay marriage, was asked whether he would attend the gay wedding of a family member or friend.
This is the meat of his answer:
“If there\’s somebody that I love that\’s in my life, I don\’t necessarily have to agree with their decisions, or the decisions they\’ve made, to continue to love them and participate in important events.
“I\’m a member of the Catholic faith. It teaches that marriage is after you get married first time if you\’ve been divorced you can\’t get be remarried. And yet people attend second marriages all the time. Ultimately, how you treat a person that you care for and love is different from what your opinion is or what your faith teaches marriage should be…
“…If it\’s somebody in my life that I love and care for, of course I would (attend their wedding). I\’m not going to hurt them simply because I disagree with a choice they\’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they\’ve made, or whatever it may be…
If you want his full answer – and I hope you do – watch the video below:
Marco Rubio wins Quote Of The Day honors for a) making all the sense in the world and b) giving Republicans a textbook definition of what they should not only be saying, but meaning, when it comes to gay marriage.
Would that more Republicans would take note, and adjust their thinking accordingly.
