With Hillary Clinton poised to announce her candidacy, you\’d think that Quote Of The Day honors would go to her. And, in truth, if there\’s anything truly notable about her announcement, I may make an exception and put up a second quote this one time.
But right now, th Quote Of The Day belongs to Ms. Clinton\’s likely opponent for the nomination, former Baltimore Mayor and Maryland Governor Martin O\’Malley.
During an interview with the Iowa press yesterday, Mr. O\’Malley referenced the “if congress isn\’t involved” letter signed by 47 Republican Senators which Democrats tried for almost two weeks to sell as traitorous – but seem to have given up, since most of their usually reliable media sycophants would go along with it. Here is what he had to say:
“When you hate the President of the United States more than you distrust the Ayatollah then you probably shouldn\’t be in the United States Senate”.
That, folks, is going to wow the hard-left base of the Democrat Party – which, these days, is very large, very moneyed and very influential.
But does it make sense?
Two points for Martin O\’Malley:
1) nothing in the letter shows, implies, or even hints at hatred of President Obama. Rread it until your eyes fall out and you won\’t find any;
2) If you distrust the ayatollah – who happens to be Iran\’s Supreme Leader, thus the one person who must agree to, and follow through on, any deal for it to be valid – then you don\’t have a deal. Because, it obviously follows, the guy who must follow through on the deal cannot be trusted to do so.
I award Martin O\’Malley Quote Of The Day honors; not for making any sense with his comment, but for providing the kind of mindless, hard-left rhetoric that will be necessary to win Democrat presidential primaries. It may not be honest, and he probably would have to back away from it if he won the nomination, but it will force his competition – Hillary Clinton, so far -either to agree with his assessment or be perceived , at least in relative terms, as a right winger.
What do you think the prospects are, these days, for someone perceived as right wing, even just in relative terms, to have a shot at the Democrat nomination for President?
Way to go, Mr. O\’Malley.
