Today\’s quote comes to us from an anonymous source: one of the “protesters” who marched down the streets of New York chanting “What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now”.
As you may remember, a week after these fine, upstanding citizens made their hopes and asprations known, a career thug executed two NYPD officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos (Mr. Ramos\’s funeral was last week, Mr.Liu\’s is today).
But wait. According to this source, they didn\’t really want dead cops.
You might find that a bit hard to derive from their chant. But here, pulled from Nicolas Medina Mora\’s article at buzzfeed.com, is his/her explanation:
“Inthat moment of outrage, the chant was the only way to express that wewanted to separate ourselves from people who just want to get a guyfired. We wanted to see the policedisbanded.”
Translation: screaming for dead cops now doesn\’t mean we want dead cops. We just want the police force disbanded, so there aren\’t any cops.
And removing all cops from Black neighborhoods in New York will certainly guarantee a safer environment, won\’t it?
See? They weren\’t making any unreasonable demands. After all, you can\’t have dead cops if there are no cops, can you?
I award Quote Of The Day honors to this marcher for reminding us that every time you think you have seen/heard/read the single most dumbass comment from the single most mindless numbskull in the universe, you are wrong. Records were made to be broken, and someone out there will leave your “winner” in the dust.
