THE PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY

Ken Berwitz

Today\’s paragraph comes to us from an editorial about Hillary Clinton in this morning\’s edition of USA Today.

Its message, and sarcastic tone, are remarkable – especially considering that USA Today usually is supportive of Ms. Clinton.

That interest enough to keep reading?  Good. Here is the paragraph

As amember of the human race, Hillary Clinton no doubt has a spine. But her backbone has beenmore than a little difficult to detect in recent weeks as she opts for onepolitically expedient position after another ahead of Tuesday\’s firstDemocratic debate.

I don\’t care what comes after that (most of which is also negative);  this editorial is a dagger aimed directly at the heart of Hillary Clinton\’s campaign strategy.  And it has to hurt – especially given the timing (one day before the presidential debate).

The fact that USA Today\’s editorial people have attacked one of  USA Today\’s icons this directly – in a way usually reserved for Republican candidates – displays a level of honesty and guts not easily found in our current mainstream media these days…which is why they win today\’s Paragraph Of The Day award.
