THE PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY

Today\’s paragraph comes to us from John Hinderaker, at powerlineblog.com.

Look at how nicely he sums up Joe Biden\’s imminent (to him – and me) entry into the presidential race:

The idea of the 72-year-old Joe Biden riding to the rescue of the Democratic Party is laughable. In truth, his entry into the race will be great for Republicans. No matter how hard leaders of the Democratic Party try to spin it, everyone will understand that he is getting into the race because Hillary Clinton is in deep trouble. This is important, because the only thing Hillary has going for her is her alleged inevitability. For the Democrats to admit, implicitly, that she is a lousy candidate is equivalent to acknowledging that the Empress wears no clothes. Her political downfall, already evident, can only accelerate.

Would Biden be getting in if Hillary Clinton seemed as inevitable now as she did to so many people just a few short months ago?  Maybe.  We\’ll never know one way or the other for sure.

But is his current decision at least somewhat informed by the opening created by Hillary Clinton\’s self-immolation as a candidate?  It seems self-evident, doesn\’t it?

And, as noted yesterday, if he can bring Elizabeth Warren on board, at least as a supporter and possibly as a Vice Presidential hopeful, Hillary not only loses the inevitability factor, but a good deal of the “vote for me because I am a woman” factor as well.  Which leaves her with what, exactly?

I award John Hinderaker Paragraph Of The Day honors for the amount of common sense and logic he managed to pack into that single paragraph.

That said, I do have one carp with it.  I don\’t know that the demise of Hillary Clinton is great for Republicans.  Joe Biden, despite his major flaws, is a likable, “man of the people” type politician.  I would not underestimate that in a general election…especially before knowing who would be running against him.

Illustratively, think about how Biden\’s persona matches up against the latest Bush dynast, Jeb.

See my point?
