Today\’s paragraph comes to us from Ed Morrissey, writing for hotair.com.
I doubt you\’ll need much of an explanation from me as to what it tells us:
The message in this deal to Israel and its Sunni neighbors is actually worse than (making concessions on every major part of the deal which assure that it will not stop Iran from building a nuclear arsenal)…It\’s not just that the US has set up a deal that won\’t work – it\’s that the Obama administration clearly doesn\’t care whether it works or not. This is the West, signing off from the Middle East, and every other nation in the region understands that message loud and clear.
Mr. Morrissey wins the Paragraph Of The Day award for introducing his belief – which may well be true – that this is the Obama administration\’s way of washing its hands of the Middle East. “We\’ve done our job, now it\’s up to you guys”.
Is he correct?
Well, the common belief that this deal is doomed has caused the astonishing spectacle of Israel and Saudi Arabia becoming allies du jour over it…because while Israel may be the single most primary target, Saudi Arabia – primarily Sunni Muslim, as opposed to Shi\’ite Iran – is in the line of fire as well.
That doesn\’t guarantee Ed Morrissey is right about this. But it certainly strengthens his case, doesn\’t it?
