THE PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY

Today\’s Paragraph – actually two paragraphs – comes to us from Mary Katharine Ham, writing at hotair.com.

Ms. Ham (is it just me, or is something not kosher about that name?), writing about the truly one-of-a-kind Alan Grayson, the Florida congressperson who aspires to a U.S. Senate seat, has put together this rundown of Grayson\’s fascinating recent history:

I remind you once again that a Washington Post thumb-sucking piece about civility in 2009 referred to Alan Grayson as “a Harvard graduate with a soft voice, [who] had decided to fight invective with invective.“ He was forced, you see, by the Tea Party to become a raving looney with a poster board in the well of the House.

Since then, this soft-spoken intellectual nobly fighting the hordes of the right has been through some stuff. He has been in and out of Congress. He has been bilked out of millions of dollars, twice. He has been discovered harboring two off-shore hedge funds, presumably to keep his hypocrisy sheltered from the hefty taxes it might incur. He has been accused of domestic abuse by his estranged wife, and though no charges were filed, she was granted a restraining order against him. He has been spurned by the DSCC in his quest to take his nuanced, intellectual, ahem, soft-spokenness to the upper chamber of Congress by running for Sen. Marco Rubio\’s seat once he\’s vacates it.

And believe me, the list Ms. Ham has put together is not by any means comprehensive.  There is lots, lots more.

Alan Grayson may have a stunning set of deficiencies, but lack of ego is not one of them.  In talking about his senate run, he has this to say:  “Frankly, one reason why Democrats are willing to crawl over hot coals naked to vote for me is because I\’m willing to tell the truth.”

If you have pictures of people crawling naked over hot coals to vote for Alan Grayson, please forward them to me.  I will happily put them up here to confirm what Grayson says.  If not, I\’ll just assume he is as obnoxious, disagreeable and egocentric now as he has been since I have known of him.

Mary Katherine Ham wins Paragraph(s) Of The Day honors for summing Grayson up as well as she did.  It\’s not that we didn\’t know, it\’s just good to have so much of it compressed into so few words.

If you were a Republican, how hard would you be rooting for Alan Grayson to be the Democrat senate candidate in Florida?
