THE MICHIGAN VOTING LAWSUIT…AND WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE

-If you vote in person, you have to provide proof you are the one casting your vote, not someone else.

-If you do not vote in person, there must be some way of demonstrating that the vote being cast/counted is yours, not someone else’s.

I have just put up what I consider to be the two most important assurances that voting is conducted honestly…and, it should be noted, the rules virtually every democracy in the world utilizes.  Except ours.

Why are these rules important?  Because if they are in place, it opens the doors for many ways to cheat and steal elections, that’s why.

And one such way is to make sure there are as many opportunities for “extra” votes as possible, and then using those extra votes to win elections.

With the above in mind, please read the first two paragraphs of Brianna Lyman’s article for thefederalist.com:

The Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, alleging the state’s voter rolls are inflated with ineligible voters.

The suit claims that 53 of the state’s 83 counties have more registered voters than they do residents who are eligible to vote. Twenty-three other counties also allegedly have “suspiciously high” voter registration rates of 90 percent or more, which does not comport with the nationwide voter registration rate, according to the suit.

Tell me:  why are Republicans fighting to have the voting rolls cleaned up in Michigan?  Why aren’t Democrats fighting for the same thing?  What reason might there be that Democrats would want as many extra ballots as possible available and Republicans insist that people who, for a variety of reasons (they moved, they died, etc.) are no longer voters should be removed?

Let me ask that more broadly:  why is it that – unless you can show me examples of the opposite situation (I’m betting you can’t) – it always seems to be Democrats who want illegal voting to be as easy to accomplish as possible?  Who fight updating voter roles/removing people who can no longer vote?  Who fight requiring voter IDs?  Fight making mail-in ballots harder to forge?

Why do you suppose?

And what is the reason they almost always invoke when fighting against the seemingly reasonable, logical idea of making sure that only legal voters can vote?

Voter suppression!!!  Racism!!!

Those are the magic words that are raised every time.

Can someone tell me how cleaning up voter roles suppresses Black votes?

Can someone tell me how expecting Black people to do nothing other than show they are who they say they are before voting – an expectation that would be exactly the same for Whites, Asians, etc. – suppresses Black votes?

What are they saying?  That Black people are less capable of providing identification than White or Asian people?  That they don’t have the same ability to do this as Whites and Asians?  That certainly seems to be what they are saying.

In other words, a key reason people – and I again emphasize it always seems to be Democrats – who demand we lower or eliminate safeguards against illegal voting, is that they consider Black people to be inferior beings, less able than non-Blacks to do something as simple as provide a valid ID – which they need for countless everyday activities (e.g. cashing a check, withdrawing money from their bank account, getting a driver’s license, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.)

If I were Black I would consider this an insult.  A huge one.  I would have trouble distinguishing it from what a ku klux klansman thinks about me.

But there it is, put out there by Democrats as a supposedly end-the-discussion reason for keeping voting as vulnerable to cheating as possible.

That is something I fervently wish every person – especially every Black person – would think long and hard about.
