I\’ll make this short and to the point.
hamid karzai is the President of Afghanistan (the part – and it isn\’t very big – where there are any laws at all) specifically and entirely because of the United States. We leave, he\’s gone and the taliban are right back in charge.
For the past five years, the President who has allowed troops in Afghanistan (dramatically more than we should have, in my opinion) has been Barack Obama.
So when President Obama comes to Afghanistan and asks to meet with karzai? He can\’t be bothered….which not only is humiliating to President Obama, but infuriating as well.
Here, from an article at AFP (Agence France Presse), is how the White House is trying to make karzai\’s obvious blow-off look better than it is:
AfghanPresident Hamid Karzai was offered a meeting with President BarackObama at Bagram Air Base outside Kabul but declined, a US officialsaid Sunday.
Theofficial said that Washington was not surprised that the meeting didnot work out at short notice, after Obama arrived at the base on asurprise visit after night fell on Sunday.
“Aswe said, we weren\’t planning for a bilateral meeting with PresidentKarzai or a trip to the palace, as this trip is focused on thankingour troops,” the official said.
“Wedid offer him the opportunity to come to Bagram, but we\’re notsurprised that it didn\’t work on short notice.
hamid karzai is an ingrate. A clown. A joke. And a footnote – a small footnote – in history once the President he just crapped on stops propping him up.
karzai\’s eventual demise – which will occur shortly after the USA leaves Afghanistan, would be troubling to me if he brought a thing to the table, this would be troubling to me. But he doesn\’t. I won\’t miss him and neither will Afghanistan or anyone/anywhere else.
As for Mr. Obama? When even the guy you are singlehandedly keeping in power blows you off, it says volumes.
