THE IRAN THREAT: WORSE THAN WE KNEW (AND WHERE IS NATO? THE UN?)

How important is it that President Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu are taking apart Iran’s offensive capabilities?

Here’s a little something I doubt the media opposing this action will be talking much about.

From Benjamin Weinthal’s article in the New York Post:

The Islamic Republic of Iran significantly escalated its war effort against the U.S. with its launch of two intermediate-range ballistic missiles on Friday toward Diego Garcia, a key U.S.-U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean.

The targeting of Diego Garcia, roughly 2,500 miles from Iran, means Tehran’s missile capabilities appear to have exceeded previously acknowledged limits.

In the period leading up to Operation Epic Fury Feb. 28, Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed, “We intentionally kept the range of our missiles below 2,000 kilometers so we don’t have that capability. And we don’t want to do that because we do not have hostility against the United States people and all Europeans.”

On Saturday, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said, “Just yesterday, Iran launched a two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 4,000 kilometers [2,500 miles] toward an American target on the island of Diego Garcia. These missiles were not intended to hit Israel. Their range reaches the capitals of Europe — Berlin, Paris and Rome are all within direct threat range.”

In other words, Iran has the capability to hit major European cities.  Not in the future, but now.

This is who we, and Israel, are taking apart.  This is the threat that they are eliminating from the world.  But the fight is not yet over…

…which leads to a question:  now that Europe knows Iran has the potential to hit its major cities, will that will bring NATO – albeit too little and too late – into this action?

I doubt it.

NATO has degenerated into a fraudulent organization, which has spent too many years doing little other than taking the United States’ money and telling us what we do wrong.  I doubt most European countries could militarily protect themselves against a Chicago street gang, let alone an empowered, missile-loaded, nuclear-building terrorist state like Iran.

President Trump, in his abrasive, take-no-prisoners style, called NATO out on its do-nothingism this week.  I could have lived without the way he said it.  But what he said was dead on target.

And don’t even get me started on the United Nations.

But here’s one guarantee that I will finish this blog with.  No matter how incapacitated we make Iran, both NATO and the UN will be happy to advise us on how it could have been done better.
