THE KEITH ELLISON MISTAKE

Here are the two latest pieces of information in the race to see who will Chair the Democratic National Committee.

According to an article posted by ABC News-Minneapolis:

-Former DNC head Howard Dean has dropped out of the running;

-Current favorite Keith Ellison has announced that, if he wins the position, he might resign his house seat and be a full-time DNC head (unlike his predecessor Debbie Wasserman Schultz. who did both).  Given that Ellison’s seat is safe-Democrat, this would not affect the makeup of congress.

Bottom line:  it is looking more and more like Keith Ellison has this job…

…which means it is looking more and more like Democrats will install a hard-leftist who has a 10 year history with the racist, Black supremacist, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam, and, not surprisingly therefore, is virulently anti-Israel.

What a mistake.  What an enormous mistake.

Forget right and wrong for a moment, let’s just talk political fallout.  If Ellison is the DNC chair, who do Democrats potentially gain and who do they potentially lose?

They potentially gain…no one.  Ellison’s appeal to the left, to Black communities and to Muslims who want more immigration of their co-religionists from parts of the world where there is active terrorism gets Democrats nowhere. They already have a vast majority of these groups.

They potentially lose…Jews and supporters of Israel, both Jewish and non-Jewish – for the obvious reasons.  Jews in particular, who have stuck with the Democrat Party as it has become increasingly anti-Israel and increasingly supportive of “Palestinian rights” groups on college campuses, which often operate as anti-Jewish cells – not just Israel, but Jews in general.  At some point, even the most loyal Democrats among them may be forced to rethink their voting preferences.

In other words, Keith Ellison’s ascent to DNC chair has no upside, but it does have a downside.

I tell my students – if there is something with an upside, and no downside, do it.  if there is something that has a downside, and no upside, don’t do it.

Obviously, Democrats who place Keith Ellison in this position have not learned that truism yet.

Too bad for them.

NOTE:  I originally referred to Keith Ellison as Howard Ellison.  This seems to be a mental block on my part, because I keep finding myself doing it.  With thanks to commenters Zeke and Art, it is now fixed and correct.

  • That would be . . K.E.I.T.H . . . Ellison, (Democrat), representati.ve for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district since Jan 4, 2007.

    It was Howard . D.E.A.N . . . . . (aka Screamin’ Howie) who dropped out of the race to be DNC Head Idiot.

  • Let’s hope the voters keep showing the D’s that the further left they go the less support they have. It is the only way to change a political party.
