THE GOFUNDME.COM & INTOLERANCE

When the owners of Melissa\’s Sweet Cakes – a young couple with a family to raise and strong Christian beliefs, was put out of business because it declined to put a gay-marriage message on a wedding cake, and then fined $135,000 for this apparently horrific crime of the century, it attempted to get help by using a leading fundraising web sit, gofundme.com.

Gofundme.com almost immediately closed them down, stating that it would not allow fundraising for this purpose.

Now the Baltimore 6 – police officers who are being charged on a multitude of criminal counts, including murder, have also tried to raise funds for their defense on gofundme.com.  That was almost immediately closed down as well.

The reason, according to what I\’ve read, is that the web site makes it clear that fundraising for serious crimes is not allowed.

That so?

Here, straight from the web site itself, is its answer to “What Can I  Raise Money For?”…

Most people use GoFundMe to raise money for themselves, a friend or loved one during life\’s important moments. This includes things like medical expenses, education costs, volunteer programs, youth sports, funerals & memorials – even animals & pets.

…and “Can I Raise Money For Anything”?:

Almost. As always, common sense goes a long way here. DO raise money for personal causes that are purposeful, exciting and inspiring to others. DON\’T break any local laws, expect strangers to buy you stuff or promote inappropriate content. When in doubt, browse our categories of thousands of successful campaigns to see how others use GoFundMe.

Do you see anything about a ban on Christians who are being put into destitution over the wording on a wedding cake, or of people accused (not convicted) of a crime by a city\’s power structure who need legal representation far beyond what they could possibly afford?

I know I don\’t.

Is gofundme.com acting out of religious/political intolerance?  You tell me.
