Did you know that dylann roof, the racist murderer of 9 innocent Black people whose “crime” was going to church and studying the bible while Black, had written a racist “manifesto”?

And, when you do, note that -if you believe roof\’s explanation of how his hatred came to be – it has a lot to do with media\’s dramatically one-sided coverage of violent crimes involving Black people.
Illustratively:
“It was obvious that Zimmerman was in the right (when shooting/killing Trayvon Martin),” he says. “But more importantly this prompted me to type in the words \’black on White crime\’ into Google, and I have never been the same since that day.”
“The first website I came to was the Council of Conservative Citizens,” the manifesto reads, referring to the white separatist group headquartered in St. Louis, MO.
“There were pages upon pages of these brutal black on White murders,” it says. “I was in disbelief. At this moment I realized that something was very wrong. How could the news be blowing up the Trayvon Martin case while hundreds of these black on White murders got ignored?”
Let me start by making something very clear: there was a stone cold racist inside of dylann root, looking for an exit ramp. What he read was nothing more than that exit ramp – as shown by the fact that he then goes on to spew vile racist crap, including use of the word “nigger”.
But what turned that racism from an internal element of his being to a external one – that turned him from someone with bad things inside him to a racial mass murderer?
Does this White separatist group really have “pages and pages” of Black on White murders that went virtually unreported? Given the statistics on race crimes, there is a very real possibility that it does.
And if it does, dylann roof\’s conclusion that media are suppressing Black on White killing, while making huge news stories of the far-fewer instances where Whites kill Blacks (in Trayvon Martin\’s case, a killing sufficiently justified for a mixed-race jury to acquit George Zimmerman) is an accurate one.
So while it remains 100% true that dylann roof is responsible for his beyond-ugly acts of racism and murder, would it be fair to say that mainstream media, which apparently enraged him by treating Black on White killings as minor-league events, while making major stories of Black on White killings, was a contributing factor….maybe a major contributing factor?
That is an important issue. A very important one. And it behooves all of us – especially the media people responsible for doing this – to think long and hard about it.
