It isn’t often you see s major political party commit suicide. But the behavior of Democrats during last night’s speech by President Trump, it seems to me, was a clear example of just that.
They behaved like little children who didn’t get their way. And beclowned themselves in front of the entire country.
Trump talked about securing the border… and they sat, sullen, their hands unmoving.
Trump introduced Laken Riley’s mother and sister, announced the implementation of “The Laken Riley Act”, which has the Department of Homeland Secuirty detain illegal aliens who engage in violent acts…and they sat, sullen, their hands unmoving.
Trump told us that the mastermind of the attack in Afghanistan that killed 13 US was captured and is en route to the US to be tried here…and they sat, sullen, their hands unmoving.
When talking about RFK Jr’s efforts to fight childhood cancer, Trump introduced a 13 year old boy, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2018 but, so far, has beat the cancer. He has always wanted to be in law enforcement, so Trump announced that he has been named an honorary secret service agent…and, other than just a few who applauded unenthusiastically, they sat, sullen, their hands unmoving.
In fairness, though, I should mention one time when a Democrat applauded something Trump said. When he mentioned the US has spent hundreds of billions to protect the Ukraine from Russia, a few Democrats clapped – Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) among the most enthusiastically. And when Trump asked “You want to keep it going for another five years”, she applauded even more enthusiastically.
Then there was Rep. Al Green (D-TX), an 11 term House member from a safe-seat district, who, in all this time, has managed to sponsor exactly two bills that became law – one of which renamed a post office. His “accomplishment” last night was to be so disrespectful, so loudly disruptive, that he had to be removed from the chamber.
I could go on, because there were a good many other such instances of Democrats petulantly, childishly refusing to applaud good news…because it occurred under the Trump presidency. But the above examples should tell you the story pretty clearly.
Oh, one other thing: that 13 year old brain cancer survivor I mentioned earlier was Black. What do you think these same Democrat congresspeople would be saying today if Republicans displayed almost total indifference to his cancer, his survival and the honor being given to him by a Democrat President?
