In a normal election year, a candidate like Tim Ryan would give President Trump plenty to worry about. He is relatively centrist, and held in high esteem among working-class Midwest people – exactly the kind of people who jumped ship, voted Republican, and won the election for Trump in 2016. In other words, Biden without the baggage.
But, as you may have noticed, this is not a normal election cycle. Tim Ryan is White, male and centrist… which, in 2020 Democrat parlance, may well be strike one, strike 2 and strike 3.
So enjoy the ride, Rep. Ryan. It may not be a long or a successful one, but at least you offer something the general voting public might want more than the left wing loonies who, unfortunately for you, drive Democrat primary elections.
