THE COST OF “BASIC SHELTER CARE” FOR ILLEGAL MINORS

Ken Berwitz

Do you have any idea how much taxpayermoney was spent to house and otherwise take care of the illegalminors who flooded across the border because President Obama made itclear most or all of them would be allowed to stay?

Well, here\’s a taste for you. And ifit doesn\’t make your blood boil, nothing will.

According to documents obtained by (the invaluable) Judicial Watch, just oneorganization, Baptist Children and Family Services (BCFS) received atotal of ______________ to provide “basic shelter care”  to 2,400children for four months.

You\’ll notice I left the amount out. That\’\’s because I want you to guess how much per child it would havecost to provide such care.

Well, let\’s see. Since most of themwere housed at either Fort Sill, Oklahoma or Lackland Air Force Basein San Antonio, Texas, the cost of providing physical living quarters must have beenpretty minimal.

But there\’s food and clothing, beds, maybe some schooling (in Spanish of course since it is doubtful anyof the minors spoke English), toys, books, that sort of thing.

How much would could it be? $500 aweek per child? $600? Maybe even more?

Just to be safe, let\’s say it was $1,000 a week per child – which, for 2,400 children would come to $2,400,000 a week.

Now let\’s multiply that amount by 18 (alittle more than the four months which have to be accounted for).  We get $43,200,000.  But maybe there are otherincidentals we\’re not considering, so let\’s raise it up to, say, $45,000,000.

That\’s a lot of money for children whohave no legal right to be here and, based on federal law, shouldnever even have been allowed into the country.

Is your blood boilingyet?  If so, I don\’t blame you.

If not, I think it is time that youknew what the actual cost was.

Sitting down?

According to the documents obtained byJudicial Watch, “basic shelter care” for those 2,400 illegalminors over that four month period was $182,129,786.

Let me say it again, so you know this is no typo:  $182,129,782.  Without having to purchase or rent housing quarters.

That\’s over$75,000 per child for four months – a rate of $227,661 per child per year.

In 2013, the median household income in the United States was $51,939.   Which means that the Obama administration paid almost 4 1/2 times what an average entire family lives on – including the cost of their living quarters – for each illegal minor.

NOW is your blood boiling?

Mine too.

But don\’t expect our wonderful”neutral” media to make much of it. After all, this is the Obamaadministration. Can\’t be criticizing them, can we?

Besides, what\’s the big deal?  I mean it\’snot like the President closed a couple of lanes on the GeorgeWashington Bridge for a few says, is it?
