THE BIDEN “COSTS ARE DOWN” VICTORY LAP

From the White House yesterday:

“Ahead of the holiday season, costs are down for everything from airline tickets and car rentals to toys and TVs.  The Biden-Harris Administration is working every day to create more breathing room for hardworking families.”

Now from the real world, via Kevin Breuninger’s article at cnbc.com:

A Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people will cost an average of $61.17 this year, down 4.5% from last year’s record-high of $64.05, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Still, the Farm Bureau said the average overall cost of the holiday meal this year is still 25% higher than it was before the pandemic.

Hmmmm.  Doesn’t that mean the White House “costs are down” brag is the result of prices hitting all-time record highs last year under his administration, and “dropping” to where, if not for last year, they would be at an all-time high right now.

But what about those lower gas prices?

Gas prices have fallen markedly since September, and the average national price of regular gas was $3.28 a gallon on Wednesday

Boy, that looks great…until you remember that the day Biden-Harris was elected – on, among other things, a promise to wreak havoc on the fossil fuel industry –  the average price for a gallon of gas was $2.11…and the day the Biden-Harris administration was inaugurated it already had risen to $2.39.  In other words, gas is now “down” to 47% higher than when the Biden-Harris administration was elected and 37% higher than when it took office.

But what about overall inflation?  That certainly is “down, isn’t it?

Uh, yep.  It is “down” to 3.2% – which is 129% higher than the 1.4% it was when Biden-Harris took office in January, 2021.

There you have it.  This is what the Biden-Harris administration is taking a victory lap over.

Are you impressed?
