ADELITO GRIJALVA & POLITICAL HARDBALL

On September 23, there was a special election in Arizona to replace Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva, who had died earlier this year, leaving his seat vacant.

Rep. Grijalva’s daughter, Adelita Grijalva, won the election.

But the Speaker Of the House, Republican Mike Johnson, refuses to seat her until the house is back in session – which is to say once the Democrat-orchestrated government shut-down is over.

Is Johnson on solid ground to do this?  Does he have any legal basis for withholding her swearing-in until the house is in session?

I don’t know.

But I would bet anything that if Ms. Grijalva were a Republican she would be seated already.

In other words, Speaker Johnson is playing political hardball; the kind Democrats play all the time against Republicans.

Remember those old adages, about “what goes around comes around” and “the shoe is on the other foot”?  Well, Democrats are now living both of them.  And I assure you they don’t like it.

Wouldn’t it be nice if, after this is over, both parties can agree to avoid partisan garbage like this from stinking up congress in the future?

I would put the odds on that happening at slightly lower than 1,000,000,000,000 to 1.
