In 1959, the remarkably gifted, remarkably successful (though now almost forgotten, sad to say), Ruth Brown had a modest hit with her rendition of “Book of Lies”.
During Barack Obama’s presidency, one of his most prominent paid liars, susan rice, built up her own book of lies. Not a song version, but a real one.
Now, in 2017, with Republicans in charge of the presidency and both houses of congress, why would anyone think rice would actually show up and testify at a congressional hearing, where she would be questioned about that book of lies?

Susan Rice is no longer expected to visit Capitol Hill on Tuesday for a meeting with the House committee probing allegations she “unmasked” President Trump associates in Russian meddling probes.
Rice had been expected to face tough questions on her role in the matter while serving as then-President Barack Obama’s national security adviser. Trump alleges Rice may have committed a crime by asking government analysts to disclose the names of his associates documented in intelligence reports.
Rice has denied that she did anything inappropriate, saying she was authorized as Obama’s national security adviser to seek the identities of people whose names were redacted from intelligence reports.
And she has suggested that her race and gender may be playing a role in the controversy, in a recent New York Magazine interview.
Rice told PBS in March that she “knew nothing” about the unmasking of Trump associates.
She later acknowledged having occasionally sought the identities of Trump associates who communicated with foreigners, a process known as “unmasking” in the intelligence community. But she later told MSNBC, “I leaked nothing to nobody.”
Yes, this is the same susan rice who also went on five different Sunday morning news shows the week of the Benghazi massacre, to “inform” the public it was not a terrorist attack, just the spontaneous reaction to some nondescript video.
Another chapter in the book of lies.
Nice touch, though, tossing in the “I’m Black and I’m a woman” defense – just in case the susan rice’s of the world haven’t trivialized racial and gender discrimination enough already.
I don’t know about anyone else, but in my book, susan rice is an unscrupulous, amoral political hack who, for years, was happy to do what she does best – lie – on behalf of Barack Obama and his people.
I hope they find a way to force her into one of those committee hearings and provide the epilogue to her book of lies – consisting of having to answer for every one of them.
