STEYER STRAITS IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Hold the presses.  Tom Steyer is making headway in South Carolina!!

The beginning paragraphs of Maya King’s article at politico.com tell the tale:

Tom Steyer has blanketed South Carolina in cash. Over the past seven months, he’s spent $14 million in TV and radio ads, spent over $100,000 on ads in black-owned newspapers, hired 93 staffers, an army of volunteers and assembled the largest state-wide operation of any other campaign.

The billionaire activist has poured more money into South Carolina in a short period of time than anyone in the state can remember — and it’s beginning to reshape the contours of the Feb. 29 primary.

“The unemployment rate in South Carolina has probably dropped an entire percentage point thanks to the Tom Steyer campaign,” said Tyler Jones, a Democratic strategist based in South Carolina. “Every YouTube video that comes on in South Carolina has a Tom Steyer ad in front of it. And he says things that every Democrat agrees with.”\

While there hasn’t been much public polling in the state, Steyer’s been in double-digits in all three surveys released this month. According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Steyer is second only to Joe Biden in the state, with Bernie Sanders a close third.

Hmmmm.  Lessee….

South Carolina has about 5 million people.  And, after pouring $14 million dollars into the state to saturate it with ads, Tom Steyer has gotten to second place there.

Hmmm.  If Steyer pumps in another $14 million for every other 5 million people – which, after subtracting the 4+ million in Iowa and New Hampshire, leaves about 323 million – a little over 64 times as much…

and if he does as well everywhere else as he is doing in South Carolina…

…he will have spent $896,000,000 dollars nationwide.

That is more than half Mr. Steyer’s total estimated net worth and almost 14 times as much as Donald Trump put into his entire presidential campaign; not just primaries but the entire presidential campaign.

And if the results are just as, er, “successful” everywhere else as they are in South Carolina, he will wind up in second place.

You’ve heard of dire straits?  These are Steyer straits.

Fun though it is to watch, you have to wonder what this man is doing?
