It must be silly season.
Rush Limbaugh has threatened to sue the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) over an email which quoted him verbatim.
Sound ridiculous? That\’s because it is.
Here\’s why.
First let\’s look at the key part of the DCCC\’s email:
“Weknew we had to take action after Limbaugh\’s reprehensible rantexcusing rape on college campuses. In case youmissed it, Limbaugh actually said, \’no\’ means \’yes\’ if you knowhow to spot it”.
Ok, now let\’s look at a transcript of what Limbaugh actually said. On September 15th, while speaking of an Ohio State sexual consent program, Limbaugh\’s exact words (or so the transcript says) were:
“How many of you guys, inyour own experience with women, have learned that \’no\’ means \’yes\’ if you know how to spot it?”
That\’s pretty definitive, wouldn\’t you say?
But Mr. Limbaugh disagrees, claiming the quote is out of context because he followed it up with this:
“Letme tell you something. In this modem world, that is simply nottolerated. People aren\’t even gonna try to understand that one. Imean, it used to be said it was a cliche. It used to be part of theadvice young boys were given.”
Limbaugh, therefore, would have you believe that if he says the “no means yes” concept is no longer tolerated (without indicating he is against it – not that I can see) that somehow renders the earlier quote nonexistent. It doesn\’t.
Well, here\’s what I would have you believe: if Rush Limbaugh tries to make a court case out of this, he will be laughed out of that court – as he certainly knows. So he\’s not going to do it.
And, as the immortal Baretta used to say, you can take that to the bank.
