REAL RACISM (CONT.)

Today\’s installment of real racism is brought to you by one of the more pompous, sanctimonious hypocrites you can find on the subject: Chris Matthews, who hosts an evening show on (where else?) MSNBC.

Matthews, a Democrat operative – he worked for Tip O\’Neill and Jimmy Carter among others – a lifelong Democrat and an obvious Republican hater, who describes himself as “fiercely neutral” (roughly the equivalent of Debbie Wasserman Schultz describing herself a “fiercely non-political”) was giving his “fiercely neutral” opinion of the just-completed Republican debate on rival network Fox News Channel (which blows MSNBC away in every time period).

Sur-prahz, sur-prahz….he was not impressed.

Here is part of what Matthews had to say (Want the video?  Click here):

“Let me ask you about wasn\’t talked about tonight.  Y\’know I\’m proud of the fact that on this show, Hardball, and other shows on MSNBC, we have been talking about denial of voting rights, I mean, almost every week, because it would seem to be an American value.

“Even if you\’re losing the campaign because of demographics, you figure \’well I gotta get our act together\’, but you don\’t start preventing people from voting.  Souls to the polls (???), some of those traditional African ways of voting, African American ways of voting, and just saying \’well let\’s just tighten that up a little bit…\'”

Traditional African American ways of voting??????????????????????????

What the hell is he talking about?

Matthews, it seems clear, is demanding is that Black people, because they are Black people, should not be subject to the same voting laws as non-Blacks. After all, they have their traditional ways of voting, like “souls to the polls”, don\’t they? So if you have Black skin that\’s the way you should vote, and if you do not have Black skin you vote another way.

Here\’s the news, Chris: there are election laws. They vary by state. But, within each state, they are the same for everyone. While at one shameful time in our history things were different, they do not vary one iota by race today, nor have they for decades. Every person, regardless of color, gender, or any other demographic, is subject to exactly, precisely, 100% the same criteria as every other person.

But you demand that they BE different. Based on what? Race, that\’s what.

I have often said that it is amazing how much racism is spewed by people who profess to be against racism.  And if this is not a perfect example of it, I don\’t know what could be.

Real racism.  It comes in all forms from all sources.  No group is immune to it or from it.  Certainly not a bloviating windbag like Chris Matthews has become, who apparently is oblivous to just what a racist he really is.
