REAL RACISM

This latest entry in our Real Racism series speaks to a sad, increasingly recurring theme:  a minority individual or group concocting a racial incident out of thin air, and then claiming victimhood.

Excerpted from Ray Sanchez and Haimy Assefa’s article at CNN.com:

Three State University of New York at Albany students who claimed to be hate crime victims are being accused of fabricating a racially motivated attack, according to campus police.

The charges against the women, which include assault and falsely reporting an incident, come weeks after the upstate New York university held a rally in support of the black students, who said they were attacked by a group of white men and women during a confrontation on a bus January 30.
Days after the alleged assault, university President Robert J. Jones said in a letter to students and faculty that he was “deeply concerned, saddened and angry about this incident.”
But the university police department said a three-week investigation found the three women actually assaulted another passenger, were not subjected to racial epithets and falsely reported the alleged crime.
“The evidence shows that, contrary to how the defendants originally portrayed things, these three individuals were not the victims of a crime,” university Police Chief Frank Wiley said in the statement. “Rather, we allege that they are the perpetrators.”
The evidence gathered against them included interviews with 35 bus passengers, video from a dozen security cameras on the bus and mobile videos taken by passengers.
“No male struck the three women,” the police statement said. “The evidence indicates they were actually the aggressors … and that they continued to assault the victim despite the efforts of several passengers to stop them.”

Do we know for certain whether the allegations against these three Black women are correct?  No, we do not.  There has not yet been a trial and the evidence has not yet been presented.

But unless Albany University’s police chief is lying – very difficult to believe (if the interviews and videos showed anything other than what he says, there is no doubt he would be fired) – this is an intentional effort to create a racial incident…and to tag an innocent person as both a perpetrator and a racist.

Isn’t there enough actual racism in this country without utter BS like this taking place?  Do bogus incidents really have to be invented?

Maybe these three figured that, at the worst, they’d be treated as victims deserving of sympathy…and, at best, maybe file a lawsuit to get some serious $$$ out of it.

If Freddy Gray’s family could cop a $6.4 million dollar settlement from Baltimore before even one police officer went on trial, thus no evidence was presented to prove he was mistreated, why not them too?

Well, right now prospects for either of those outcomes do not look promising.  If the allegations against them are true, an expulsion from the university and conviction on the criminal charges seem much more likely.

Real racism.  It comes in all forms from all sources.  No group is immune to it or from it.  Even when it is invented out of thin air.
