MY RETRACTABLE, EXPLODING HOSE

Ken Berwitz

Apropos of nothing political…

So I\’m using one of those retractable hoses in the front of our house.

I bought it a year ago, &, since then, it has sprung four different leaks – but I have managed, through judicious use of marine glue and duct tape, to keep it going anyway.

Until this morning.

I\’m busy watering a rose bush and all of a sudden, I hear a loud POP!

The hose had literally exploded, and split in half. I don\’t mean that a large hole was sprung in the middle of the hose, I mean it was now in two pieces, with the half still attached to the water supply spewing out a heavy spray in every direction, like one of those snakes the charmers get to come out of the basket, that was overdosed on uppers.

Needless to say, the retractable hose is now retired.

But not to worry, Mr. Manufacturer, I immediately went out and bought another one. Because, no matter how crappily it is made, the convenience of a retractable hose, and the fact that it replaces a heavy, unsightly plastic/rubber varieties which require that bulky spool thing you use to wind it up after each use, makes the retractible hose worthwhile even if it goes blooey way too fast.

Ok, back to politics, where I wish a lot of the elections were as retractable as the hose.
