KIM DAVIS AND MEGA-HYPOCRISY

Ken Berwitz

Kim Davis, as I am sure you know, is the Kentucky County Clerk (Rowan County, in case you care) who refused to issue a marriage to a gay couple, on the grounds that, in her own words, “It is about marriage and God\’s word”.

That\’s a beautiful, heartfelt sentiment, which Ms. Davis may now believe 100%.  But allow me to describe her personal history, courtesy of the following excerpt from Elizabeth Chuck\’s article at NBC News:

She was first married in 1984, when she was 18, and divorced a decade later, court records show. Five months after the marriage dissolved, she gave birth to twins by another man.

In 1996, she married again, and her new husband adopted the twins. They divorced in 2006.

The following year, she married the father of her twins. That third marriage lasted less than a year.

In 2009, Davis remarried her second husband, Joe Davis. They remain wed.

Is that what God had in mind?  Because it doesn\’t look like one man and one woman \’til death do us part to me.

FYI, the couple whose marriage license she refused to issue, would have gone to  David V. Moore and David Ermold, who have been partners for 17 years.

You can draw whatever inferences you want – one of which may well be that there is no mega-hypocrisy level here because Davis had an epiphany and changed her ways,

But, just as I would have strongly objected to the earlier version of Ms. Davis demanding that people have multiple spouses and out-of-wedlock children in between, so do I object to her trying to force her current beliefs on people today, in contradiction to the laws of the land.

Your call.
