Let’s start by distinguishing between the above two terms.
“Woke”, these days, means on being on board with every far left initiative that comes from the hard left wing of the Democrat Party (and people who reject the Democrat Party because, even its hard left wing is not far left enough).
“Awakened” – a term I just coined in this context – means waking up about how ridiculous some “woke” positions are and, however grudgingly, admitting that sometimes they are wrong/the non-leftists are correct.
Joe Scarborough is a take-no-prisoners staunch liberal Democrat. But even he has beome “awakened” regarding the issue of crime in Washington D.C.
Here, from Tyler Stone’s article for realclearpolitics.com (with accompanying video) is part of what Scarborough said about it while being interviewed by journalist Mark Halperin (the bold print is mine):
There’s a Washington Post poll that was published just a couple of months ago. Ninety one percent of Washington, D.C. residents said that crime was a serious problem. With half of D.C. residents saying it was an extremely serious problem. So that’s nine out of 10 voters telling you crime is a problem. Don’t tell them it’s not a problem. This this is short sighted.
This is not helpful. Also, when you have people talking about this in terms of race, oh, Donald Trump is using crime as you know, as as as a means of of of attack attacking black people. Dig into this at that same poll.
And what you will find in Washington, D.C. in twenty twenty five is what you found in New York City and across the country in twenty twenty during the whole defund the police movement in this Washington Post poll, where nine out of 10 people in Washington, D.C. say crime is a big problem. The Washington Post explains that the the opinion on crime is sharply divided along racial and economic lines. And guess what?
Black voters and poor to working class voters are the ones who see crime as a more serious problem. White voters and affluent people who live in Washington, D.C., do not see crime as a serious of a problem. So so again, the Democratic Party is being tone deaf here.
You got that right, Joe. Good for you.
Knowing who/what Joe Scarborough is, I have to say I am very surprised by the above analysis. But, I guess, when you become “awakened” things suddenly are much clearer.
May this new/very beneficial affliction continue affecting Joe Scarborough. And may it be contagious enough to affect some of his usual “woke” compatriots as well.
