The current lead story at drudgereport.com is that Joan Rivers, in answer to a reporter\’s questionThere are reports that Joan Rivers, upon being asked if she thought there would ever be a gay President, answered, “We already have it with Obama.”.
And not content with leaving it there, she also said “You know Michelle is a tranny. A transgender. We all know.”

Ms. Rivers\’ comments, assuming she made them, are mindlessly low-class. The kind of material she would never have used years ago – but now, at the age of 81, seems very comfortable with.
I once met Joan Rivers – at Continental Airline\’s lounge in Newark, where we both were waiting for early morning flights. We had a brief, funny conversation lamenting the quality of bagels being offered at that lounge, then went our separate ways.
Let me say, with great sadness, that the quality of Ms. Rivers\’ material these days reminds me of that conversation.
She owes Barack and Michelle Obama an apology – one I doubt they will ever get.
