….and voters consider it the most important issue of this midterm election…
….then why do the polls indicate that Republicans are poised to do so well on Tuesday?
Here are a few possibilities:
-Could it be that the recovery from 2009\’s recession (not “great recession” or “depression”, both terms having been floated to make Barack Obama\’s performance seem better by comparison) has been so anemic, for so long, that even many of his supporters can\’t fake it anymore?
-Could it be that the “job growth” he keeps touting is, in reality, a transformation from full-time jobs to part-time jobs? And that people cannot find the full-time jobs they are qualified to do because those jobs are ceasing to exist? And that ObamaCare, which is required for employees who work 30 hours a week or more, is killing full-time jobs – and job-seekers know it?
-Could it be that the current 5.9% unemployment rate, which is being touted as wonderful by Obama & Co., is meaningless – for the reasons above (i.e. so much of it is part-time jobs)? And that the unemployment rate wildly overstates real conditions, because it does not take into account the millions and millions of people who have given up looking for work, so they don\’t count as unemployed (the job participation rate is at a 36 year low)? And that, even if it were real, 5.9% is lousy anyway (President Bush showed better unemployment levels for about 2/3 of his time in office than the best Obama has ever done – and that was with the higher job participation rate)?
Look, polls are not election results. They could very well be wrong (in either direction). We don\’t know what the results of this election are until we can actually see them.
But is there any doubt at all that the economic message being pumped out by President Obama and his fellow Democrats is not resonating?
And with damn good reason too.
