Ken Berwitz
(With apologies to the late, great Johnny Carson for stealing his favorite straight line): How bad is the Ron Klain appointment?
Answer: So bad that even New York Times readers think it stinks.
That may not be a funny punch line. But it is a dead-on true one.
Let me show you.
Just click here*** and you will link to the Times article about President Obama naming Klain – a partisan political hack with absolutely no expertise in any field related to medicine in general or ebola in particular – to be the “Ebola Czar”. Then look at the comments (at last count there were almost 400 of them, and the total was rapidly growing). Keep in mind that, based on having read the comments section of countless Times articles, I know its readership to be vastly liberal-left.
But you would never know it here. This time, you will find that a majority – a large one – is attacking President Obama for his obvious, cynical, politics-uber-alles selection of Klain.
One commenter, who uses the screen name “patalcant” summed up the general tenor of opinion very well:
What\’s actually scary about this appointment is that Obama mighthave made it in the teeth of the obvious backlash he\’d get from everyone excepthis most loyal supporters over the choice.
To me, this suggests that the Obama WH is trying to hide somethingfrom public view — most likely, the dreadful sequence of decisions that haveled us up to this point.
Obama clearly doesn\’t want a strong, independent, purely scientificand medical mind leading this mission. No doubt, such a person will not buckleto the politics that have and will take place on this issue in the WH.
This, rather than Ebola, seems to be what\’s scaring the Obama WH.
That pretty much hits the nail on the head.
Now let\’s count up the number of Democrat candidates around the country, in a collective cold sweat, who fall all over each other to tell voters how bad this selection is – candidates who, if elected, will vote with Mr. Obama almost all the time anyway. I suspect there will be quite a few of them.
I wonder how many people they will fool.

*** It is now Saturday morning.
I don\’t know how or why, but the link, which was correct last night, no longer works. The New York Times article I now find, telling us of Klain\’s appointment (and it may be the same article I originally linked to), magically has no comment section.
Am I just unable to find an article I wrote about last night? Or is it that the Times decided to get rid of the version with all those negative comments? I can\’t say for sure. But I hope that it is option #1.
