HOW BAD IS RETAIL BUSINESS IN “WOKE” SAN FRANCISCO?

In answer the above question, I suggest you read this full-page ad that was placed in the San Francisco Chronicle by John Chachas, Chairman of Gump’s – a luxury department store that has been a fixture in the city since pre-civil war times:

Gumps letter

Here is a picture of Gump’s – which, if Mr. Chachas is as serious about closing as it seems, may soon be a collector’s item:

Gumps

Will San Francisco have to add Gump’s to the voluminous list of stores that have closed, primarily due to streets filled with drug paraphernalia and human feces (a great environment for residents and tourists both, wouldn’t you say), along with rampant shoplifting, made profitable by the policy of virtually no penalties for doing so?

Will Gump’s join stores like Nordstrom’s, Old Navy, Whole Foods (after just one year), Anthropologie, Office Depot, Banana Republic, etc. etc. etc. which have turned former hubs like Union Square and the Embarcadero into semi-ghost towns?

My congratulations to the “leadership” of the city.  To its last several mayors (one of them current Governor Gavin Newsom), its District Attorneys, and that wonderful City Board Of Supervisors which has been so supportive of “woke” policies like defunding the police and making shoplifting of up to $950 nothing more than a misdemeanor.

If you wanted to transform the city, mission definitely accomplished.
