The latest bloomberg pollhttp://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-09-23/bloomberg-poll-joe-biden-now-top-presidential-choice-for-1-in-4-democrats is out. And when Democrat respondents were asked who they preferred as their presidential candidate in 2016, this is how they answered:
Hillary Clinton 33%Joe Biden 25%Bernier Sanders 24%
At one time, Hillary Clinton was considered by many to be the inevitable Democrat presidential candidate.
Does this look inevitable to you?
Assuming these data are accurate, she is only 8% ahead of a guy who isn\’t even a declared candidate….and 9% ahead of a nondescript leftist senator from a small state, who isn\’t even a Democrat.
Again assuming these data are accurate, it seems to me that this is exactly the time Joe Biden, if he is serious about running, should be jumping in. Here\’s why:
-There is a base of Hillary voters who will stick with her no matter what. And it is a pretty good likelihood that her anemic 33% showing in this poll is just about where that base is.-But suppose the next time this poll is conducted, she moves up to 35% – 40%. As poor a showing as it would be, media will probably report it as a “surge”. As “upward momentum”. And Joe Biden\’s moment may be lost.
At some point Mr. Biden has to defecate or get off the pot.
This is defecation time.
