Hey, Hillary Clinton is going to launch her presidential campaign this weekend.
Uh….what\’s that you say? I must have been asleep for the past two months because she launched that campaign on April 12th?
Well, tell you what: read the following excerpts from Jonah Goldberg\’s latest column at townhall.com, and then we\’ll talk:
Almost exactly two months after Hillary Rodham Clinton\’s official announcement that she\’s running for president, she will give her first “official campaign announcement speech,” on June 13, according to her Twitter account. In other words, the Clinton campaign wants a do-over. Her first rollout was the most disastrous nonfatal presidential campaign debut in modern memory, so she wants another.
(Here early leads versus potential Republican candidates) have nearly evaporated. Bush, whose rollout has also been less than stellar, now trails Clinton by 8 percentage points, according to CNN (but only 3, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll). Walker and Rubio are 3 percentage points behind her and Paul is 1.
Worse, the public is souring on her, like a carton of milk left out in the sun. More Americans now view her unfavorably rather than favorably (50 percent to 46 percent), her worst polling performance in 14 years. Fifty-seven percent believe she is untrustworthy, and fewer than half (47 percent) said she cares about people like them. Remember back in 2008 when her image took a beating in her bruising primary fight with Barack Obama? Her image is worse today.
A queston for you: if…
after two months of not answering any questions about the scandals swirling around her…
and two months of most mainstream media doing their level best to insulate her from being held to account for those scandals…
and two months of those same mainstream media insuring that she will be virtually unchallenged by other Democrats (how many articles and/or cable news segments have you seen of declared challengers Bernie Sanders or Martin O\’Malley?)…
every major poll shows her dropping like a rock anyway….
Is there any doubt about why she wants – make that desperately needs – to pretend the last two months did not happen?
Well, they did happen. And Take II of launching her presidential campaign is not going to make her any more appealing, nor is it going to make any of the reasons she is dropping go away.
Hillary Clinton inevitable? Believe me, she\’s evitable.
