Yesterday, in Iowa, we had the first face-off between Hillary Clinton and what now are her two main rivals for the Democrat presidential nomination (with the dramatically more formidable Joe Biden a near certainty to follow).
Here, via the first three paragraphs of David Martosko\’s piece for London\’s Daily Mail, is how she made out:
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Governor Martin O\’Malley, two emotionally potent politicians determined to run far to the left of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, outshined her Friday night during the Democratic presidential field\’s first big \’cattle-call\’ event.
Following Clinton, who spoke in sharp cadence about herself and her family\’s story, the two men wowed a crowd of more than 1,300 with powerful appeals to progressives.
Clinton entered the presidential race as the presumptive Democratic nominee, but she has at least two formidable foes who exceeded her ovations and grew their following on Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Is this true? Did that really happen?
We have to remember that Hillary Clinton\’s people have had David Martosko removed from several of her events, on the (frankly, nonsensical) grounds that, as a writer for a London-based newspaper, he is not properly credentialed. So it can be argued that this mistreatment colors his reporting of how she is doing.
On the other hand, it seems evident that the phony credentials issue was invented because Ms. Clinton and her people did not like the fact that his reporting, was more critical than other media venues (hardly a surprise, given the fawning adoration so many of our media toss her way). So we have a chicken and an egg situation here.
In any event, if Mr. Martosko is writing accurately – and my experience is that he usually does just that – what does it say about Hillary Clinton, and her ability to look good in a competitive environment – even among just Democrats?
Hillary Clinton inevitable? Believe me, she\’s evitable.
