Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra is 90 years old today.
Yogi is the only New York Yankee still alive who played on all five of their consecutive World Series champion teams from 1949 to 1953 (90 year old Irv Noren and 86 year old Edward Charles “Whitey” Ford, are the only other living Yankees I know of who played on any of those teams).
Not only was Mr. Berra a great hall of fame ballplayer, but apparently one of the all-time nicest guys the game ever saw.
And, as you probably know, he was also a human factory for creating memorable sayings (“It ain\’t over \’til it\’s over” is probably the most famous, but there are a ton more – some of them absolutely hilarious).
Yogi Berra is nothing short of an American treasure. I hope you join me in wishing him good health, and happiness, for years and years to come.
