david weigel used to write for the Washington Post. The Post fired him, because his hatred of Republicans/conservatives was so great that he made a series of astonishingly vicious, over-the-top comments about them that made it impossible for the paper to even pretend he could write objectively.
But the 2016 campaign is coming up, and there is that pervasive fear that (gasp!!!) the eventual Republican might win.
So guess who has just been rehired? You got it. david weigel.
Here, courtesy of Paul Mirengoff\’s highly illuminating post at powerlineblog.com, is a partial sampling of weigel\’s commentary (be sure to read Paul\’s entire blog and you\’ll find plenty more just like it):
When Rush Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital with chest pains, Weigel quipped, “I hope he fails,” a reference to Limbaugh\’s comment that he hoped the Obama presidency would fail. He described Newt Gingrich as “an amoral blowhard who resigned in disgrace” and who is “now polluting my inbox and TV with [his] bellowing and minority-bashing.”
Of Matt Drudge, Weigel wrote: “It\’s really a disgrace that an amoral shut-in like Drudge maintains the influence he does on the news cycle while gay-baiting, lying, and flubbing facts.” He also wrote: “This would be a vastly better world to live in if Matt Drudge decided to handle his emotional problems more responsibly, and set himself on fire.” (Emphasis added) And he tweeted: “I hear there\’s video out there of Matt Drudge diddling an 8-year-old boy. Shocking.” This was a joke, the charming Weigel later explained.
Let me again remind you that this is only a partial sampling, and that Paul\’s piece has a lot more.
Is there any way on God\’s green earth that the Post can claim david weigel will provide neutral reporting?
But, there he is. Right back at his desk….and just in time to provide his particular brand of coverage for the upcoming presidential election.
david weigel is a disgrace. And the Washington Post disgraces itself by rehiring him.
