The people of Minneapolis vote leftward. And this is what they are “left” with.

A District Attorney dubbed the ‘wokest’ in the country has launched a new ‘soft-on-crime’ policy that is set to make her city even more dangerous.
The controversial change introduced by Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty takes effect October 15.
Under the new policy, if police pull someone over for a minor issue like a broken taillight and then find illegal drugs or a gun, the county attorney’s office will no longer press charges.
Moriarty is unapologetic, claiming the stops disproportionately target black and brown drivers, rarely result in serious convictions and are ineffective at recovering contraband or improving safety.
‘Non-public-safety traffic stops do not protect public safety, and they actively harm our community,’ Moriarty said on Wednesday. ‘This policy is grounded in research and best practices.
‘This policy is grounded in research and best practices that clearly demonstrate these stops deeply undermine community trust, which has a significant negative impact on law enforcement’s ability to investigate crime and our ability to prosecute cases.’
Huh? Wah?
Is this miserable excuse for a District Attorney actually saying that if, in the course of stopping a motorist, they find illegal drugs or a gun – which, the last time I checked, is a lethal weapon – the motorist gets a free pass??????? And the reason is that a disproportionate number of stops are made for “black and brown drivers”????????
Gee, maybe the disproportionately “black and brown” stop ratio has something to do with data like this AI analysis of homicide and violent crime rates for 2023 (I can’t find more recent data):

- Murder victims (Minnesota): Though African-Americans make up less than 10% of Minnesota’s population, they accounted for 61% of murder victims in 2020, 65% in 2021, and 55% in 2022.
- Homicide perpetrators (Minneapolis): A July 2023 report from City Journal stated that Black individuals were responsible for 88% of homicides in Minneapolis where the offender’s race was known.
- Murder perpetrators (Minnesota): State-level data indicates that African-Americans were the perpetrators in 66% of murders in 2020, 76% in 2021, and 72% in 2022.
Would it be fair to say that this just might account for that racial disparity?
But, regardless, ANYONE who is found in possession of illegal drugs or is toting a gun (for which that person has no permit) REGARDLESS of their race should be prosecuted. Period, end of story.
Not in Minneapolis, though.
And the irony, of course, is that since most Black crime is committed against other Blacks, looking the other way at illegal drugs and gun possession is going to disproportionately hurt who? Black and brown people: exactly who DA mary moriarty has deluded herself into thinking she’s doing a good deed for.
Let me end with this reminder to the voters of Minneapolis: you put this genius in office, and this is what you got. I hope you’re happy with it.
