ELIE WIESEL, R.I.P.

Elie Wiesel, the Auschwitz survivor who became a tireless, lifelong force for Holocaust awareness, justice for its victims, and, more generally, for worldwide humanitarianism, has passed away at the age of 87.

Mr. Weisel rose from the ovens of Auschwitz to write dozens of books about his and others’ experiences in those years, and to win the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution, calling him “a messenger to mankind”, whose “message is one of peace, atonement and human dignity. His belief that the forces fighting evil in the world can be victorious is a hard-won belief.”

That was 30 years ago, when the Nobel Peace Prize really meant something.  And it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving human being.

May Elie Wiesel rest in peace.
