What if I told you that Verizon Wireless is now telling everyone who calls its 800 technical support number that some of the responses will be generated by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and that the information may be inaccurate?
Would you tell me I must be hearing the message wrong, on the grounds that neither Verizon nor any other allegedly functioning company would ever put up such a message? I can’t say I’d blame you if you did.
But – amazingly, incredibly and inexplicably – that is EXACTLY what Verizon is telling every caller.
Doubt me? Call Verizon at 1-800-922-0204 and hear it for yourself.
After the simulated voice informs you “Im the Verizon Assistant”, gives you a Spanish-speaking option and tells you the conversation may be recorded, you hear this:
“Some responses are generated by AI, and accuracy may vary”
SAY WHAT???
Verizon is literally, in so many words, telling you that a) you may (or may not) be talking to an Artificial Intelligence system and b) if so (remember, you don’t know whether you are or aren’t), the information you get may or may not be accurate.
Are they out of their minds?
