We’ve been talking about this for days and days. And now it may – MAY – have happened.
From Simon Denyer’s article in the Washington Post:
China won’t come to North Korea’s help if it launches missiles threatening U.S. soil and there is retaliation, a state-owned newspaper warned on Friday, but it would intervene if Washington strikes first.
The Global Times newspaper is not an official mouthpiece of the Communist Party, but in this case its editorial probably does reflect government policy, experts said.
Yes, it is possible that this does not reflect government policy. But the likelihood is remote.
What this means is that if kim jung-un is the aggressor – i.e. he shoots off those missiles toward Guam – he’s on his own.
Would that in any way deter a deranged lunatic like kim? Maybe it would and maybe it wouldn’t.
And maybe China’s leaders, tired of having to deal with this mindless fool, will decide it is better for them – not to mention everyone else – if kim jung-un were, to coin a phrase, Putined.’
And if they do, it will be a sad day for…….uh….er….
….sorry, I can’t think of an end for that sentence.
