DESCRIBING A WORLD LEADER

First, the description:

Asa world leader, __________ has been the best counter-voice to thecliched hostility and animus found in most self-labelled”progressive” perspectives. Indeed his clarity on Israel\’sright to exist, to be free of menace and molestation from itsenemies, greatly annoys the professional anti-Israelis who flourishon the campuses and in the progressive opinion pages of the West.

Andrarely has he been as staunch in his backing of the beleagueredIsraeli state as in this latest flareup. The _________ hasspoken with exquisite clarity on Israel\’s right to defend itself. On this white hot question even Mr. ________ most visceral criticshave to acknowledge he is a very model of the clear, unequivocatingpolitician. Dislike him if you will, object to the policy if youmust, but no one may claim he is not absolutely forthright on wherehe stands and what he means.

Very impressive.  But which world leader is being described?

Is it President Barack Obama, who would do us all proud to be characterized this way – as a man who takes a “clear”, “unequivocating” position?  Who is “absolutely forthright” on where he stands and what he means?

It would be great if that described Mr. Obama.  But the answer, of course, is no.

So who is it?

Here – with a tip of my hat to Rex Murphy of Canada\’s National Post, is the unedited description, which provides your answer:

As a world leader, Mr. Harper has been the best counter-voice to the cliched hostility and animus found in most self-labelled “progressive” perspectives. Indeed his clarity on Israel\’s right to exist, to be free of menace and molestation from its enemies, greatly annoys the professional anti-Israelis who flourish on the campuses and in the progressive opinion pages of the West.

And rarely has he been as staunch in his backing of the beleaguered Israeli state as in this latest flareup. The Prime Minister has spoken with exquisite clarity on Israel\’s right to defend itself. On this white hot question even Mr. Harper\’s most visceral critics have to acknowledge he is a very model of the clear, unequivocating politician. Dislike him if you will, object to the policy if you must, but no one may claim he is not absolutely forthright on where he stands and what he means.

I have an offer to Mr. Murphy and his fellow Canadians:

Wanna swap heads of state?  Please?
