CRIMEA: THE MEDIA FANTASY THAT TENSIONS HAVE EASED

In the past day or two, you may have heard, or read, that tensions are easing in Crimea.

The only thing that is easing is media coverage of Barack Obama\’s latest display of foreign policy incompetence and ineptitude.  In other words, the situation is back to normal

Excerpted from an article at CBC News:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has rebuffed a warning from U.S. President Barack Obama over Moscow\’s military intervention in Crimea, saying on Friday that Russia could not ignore calls for help from Russian speakers in Ukraine.

After an hour-long telephone call, Putin said in a statement that Moscow and Washington were still far apart on the situation in the former Soviet republic, where he said the new authorities had taken “absolutely illegitimate decisions on the eastern, southeastern and Crimea regions.

“Russia cannot ignore calls for help and it acts accordingly, in full compliance with international law,” Putin said.

Putin has spent five years observing President Obama\’s fecklessness.  He is fresh off of putting the wood to the hapless Obama with Iran, and then Syria.  He now feels – with obvious justification – that he has nothing to worry about from Obama when he sends troops into Crimea with the intention of expropriating that part of the Ukraine and annexing it to Russia.

Would this have happened if Putin had any inkling that he had a thing to worry about from a Chicago machine politician, who is now, and has always been, in 100 miles over his head?

Three more years of this, folks.  And we have no one to blame but ourselves.  We elected him in 2008, watched him run a disastrous first term, and then elected him again.

What is that old saying?  “Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me”?  Too bad for us that we are living it right now.
