CNN is telling us that it is not going to include Carly Fiorina among participants in the upcoming Republican debate it is hosting. Even though the polls say she is – in fact, the latest data show her in the top 7.
Why? Here\’s a possible answer for you:
Ms. Fiorina, as you may have noticed, is a woman. And a woman running Republican and doing well among the presidential candidates, might damage the claim, made by current (though maybe not future) leading Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, that Republicans are waging a war on women.
With that in mind, along with the fact, while Hillary\’s husband Bill was President, CNN\’s favorable bias was so evident that some people called it the Clinton News Network, maybe we have an explanation.
Oh, one other thing: yesterday, at an event outside of Boston, Donald Trump took questions. The first one he took was from a CNN reporter, who asked him about a small number of protesters outside of the venue he was speaking at. Trump said – this is paraphrasing, not verbatim – that there were (thousands of) people there to support him, and the CNN person was asking about – i.e. trying to direct the focus toward – those few protesters. He said – and this is verbatim – “CNN is terrible”.
Whatever you think about Trump, he had that dead-on right. I hope he, and every other candidate, outs reporters every time they engage in what, for lack of a better description, I will call “push-journalism”, every time it is done.
