CHRIS CHRISTIE’S EXIT

Chris Christie, former federal prosecutor, Governor of New Jersey and avid Trump-hater, is no longer running for the Republican presidential nomination.

Christie ended his doomed-from-the-start campaign yesterday, without endorsing any other candidate…but after being caught on a hot mic ridiculing Trump alternatives Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, both of whom were well ahead of him in the Iowa and New Hampshire primary polling.

So if he doesn’t want Trump, and neither endorses nor suspects there is any hope for Trump’s major competition, where is he besides nowhere?

That is the corner Chris Christie has put himself in.  Not a very good corner, is it?

The sad part is that, when he is not being angry and vindictive, Christie is an intelligent man whose usually moderate Republican political positions, and the reasons he advances to have those positions, make a great deal of sense.  But instead of featuring these positions, Christie never missed an opportunity to angrily spout out insults at other candidates – mostly Trump, but Vivek Ramaswami as well, and now Haley and DeSantis.

Ironic, isn’t it, that, in the final analysis, Chris Christie’s biggest negative was exactly the same as Trump’s:  a big, uncontrollable mouth.
