CHRIS CHRISTIE TAKES ON THE NEW YORK TIMES

Yesterday\’s New York Times editorial makes the truly incredible claim that the terrorist atrocity in San Bernardino, California showed President Obama was correct when he said, the week before, that there was no specific and credible intelligence indicating a plot on the homeland (I\’ll leave it to you to figure out how a terrorist attack shows that), and then pumps out the requisite tie-in to more, stricter gun control laws (as if any laws would have stopped a terrorist murder spree:  which ones do you think the terrorists would have abided by?)

Here is what New Jersey Governor and Presidential candidate Chris Christie has to say about that editorial, in an interview which will air this morning on CBS\’s Face The Nation:

“It\’s typical liberal claptrap from the New York Times. The fact is that what we need to be focused on here are two issues: takingcriminals who commit crimes with handguns and putting them in jail. And we haveto work on our mental health system in this country to give doctors andcaregivers greater latitude to involuntarily commit folks who have mentalhealth issues and who don\’t want to take their medication and helpthemselves.”

“Remember, the president and the secretary, before they evenknew what was going on here, ran out on the first moments after this attack andsaid this was a gun control issue.  Idon\’t know what gun control laws, john, are going to stop terrorists fromattacking us. But this is the typical liberal approach to things…They wantedto try to turn this awful tragedy into an excuse to have greater guncontrol.”

“What we really need is greater intelligence, which thepresident has taken away from this country with the complicity of [Senator]Cruz and Senator Paul, and we need to make sure that we back our lawenforcement so they can take these criminals off the streets”.

One more “I\’ll leave it to you”:  I\’ll leave it to you to decide whether Mr. Christie or the New York Times is making more sense here.

It\’s a very simple thought process:

-If you think more gun control laws would stop violent criminals and terrorist attacks like the one in San Bernardino, the Times is making more sense.

-If you think putting criminals who use guns in jail, removing violent people with mental health issues from the streets, and generating more intelligence to root out terrorists would have a better shot at doing so, then Chris Christie is making more sense.

Your call.

And if you think someone with Governor Christie\’s positions on these issues would not be a bad choice as President?  That\’s your call too.
