CHICAGO\’S TRUMPOCRISY

You have to laugh.  Really.

As you may be aware, Donald Trump has built a “Trump Tower” on the Chicago riverfront.  And, as he does with most – maybe all – of his buildings, the Trump name is being put on it:

This has angered some people – very especially Chicago\’s Mayor, Rahm Emanuel; a hardline Democrat who, as you might have guessed, has no love lost for the Republican Mr. Trump.

Excerpted from John Byrne and Bill Ruthbart\’s article in the Chicago Tribune:

MayorRahm Emanuel said Friday he has asked his staff to look at possiblechanges to the city\’sregulations to ensure that another “tasteless” sign like the newone on the Trump Tower is never allowed again.

Emanueldid not answer questions about what actionhe could take to remove the sign, which was installed this week.Instead, the mayor chose to focus on preventing similar signs fromappearing along Chicago\’s riverfront.

“Iwant to make sure that on a future basis that we have the planningdevelopment and all the ordinances in a way that reflect the city\’sbeautiful architecture,” Emanuel said. “And if we have to tightenthat up, I\’ve asked my staff to look at itso a situation like this doesn\’t emerge in the future.”

Emanuelalso repeated his personal opinion, that the “tasteless” sign”scars the architecture, beauty and taste” of the Trump Tower.

Translation:  “Trump did everything legally, so I can\’t make him take down the sign.  But I hate that guy, so I\’m going to whine about it instead”.

Er, Mayor Emanuel:  You don\’t like Donald Trump?  Maybe think he\’s a pompous unlikable guy?    I agree: Trump can be pompous and unlikable.

Remind you of anyone you\’ve seen in the mirror lately?

With all due respect, maybe you should concentrate a bit less on the Trump sign, and worry a bit more about the fact that, with your ultra-strict gun control laws in place, gun mayhem still reigns in Chicago.  There were 27 shootings, resulting in at least two deaths, over this Father\’s Day weekend.  How many of them do you figure took place with legally owned guns?  Does that in some way communicate to you that strict gun control laws don\’t stop gun violence?  So how about stashing the political BS and start trying to address the safety of Chicagoans, ok?

As for the Chicago Tribune – which ran not only the article excerpted above, but a hit piece on “Trump” by Blair Kamin, its architectural critic,  I wonder how Mr. Kamin feels about this huge sign that towers above North Michigan Avenue?

Is that as much of an eyesore as the “Trump” sign, Mr.Kamin?  How do you feel about it, Mayor Emanuel?

Finally, just in case the Trib\’s competition wants to get into the act, let me head it off at the pass with this……

Hypocrisy?  Let\’s call it Trumpocrisy instead.
