As Democrats continue to assure us that Trump’s tariff policies are ruining the country/destroying the economy/etc…..
…here is the beginning of an article, from Tom Ozimek’s article for theepochtimes.com, via thelibertydaily.com, that might be of interest to you:
Whirlpool CEO Marc Bitzer said President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have created a “level playing field” for expanding U.S. manufacturing and incentivizing companies to invest in domestic production.
“What the tariff policy does [is] it makes a business case, an economic business case, just much more attractive,” Bitzer told Fox News in an Oct. 15 interview.
His remarks came as Whirlpool announced a $300 million investment in its U.S. laundry manufacturing facilities, a move the company described as “one in a series of strategic commitments to grow its American manufacturing footprint.”
Bitzer told Fox News that without Trump’s tariff measures, the company might have reduced, delayed, or possibly reconsidered the investment. But now, he said, Whirlpool views the policy landscape as stable enough to justify long-term commitments.
“Any investment is a bet for the future,” Bitzer said. “So, yes, our bet is that these tariff policies stay, it creates a level playing field and, therefore, these economic investments generate profitable returns.”
Tell you what: if the tariffs are such a damaging concept, it seems to have been lost on Whirlpool’s CEO. And – though, like everything else he bloviates about, Trump has a nasty habit if wildly exaggerating the positive effect tariffs have had – the fact remains that Marc Bitzer is far from the only one; trillions and trillions of dollars have been committed to investment in the United States since tariffs were implemented.
Also, let’s remember that a lot of the people who have spent the last 9 months giving us doomsday predictions about tariffs were also telling us they would blow inflation sky-high and crash the stock markets….except inflation (not counting the October data, which have not been reported yet) has ranged from 2.3 to 2.9% – all below the 3.0% he inherited from Joe Biden’s presidency. And every major stock market is at or near its all-time-high.
Bottom line? I’d say that, just maybe, those folks were just a tad off-target. Just maybe, tariffs weren’t such a bad idea after all. How about you?
