To Mr. Joseph Biden and his family:
Today I watched as much as I could take of you, with your hands on your grandchildren\’s shoulders and surrounded by the other members of your family, saying goodbye to your son Beau.
I had the luxury of being able to turn off the TV and, in effect, leave the site, because it was so upsetting to me. You did not. That is your son who will be interred today.
Speaking as a fellow husband, father and grandfather, I do not own the words to tell you how sorry I am about your loss. I don\’t think the words exist.
Please know that my family and – I have no doubt at all about this – countless millions of others, mourn your loss, and hope that you can, somehow, get through this impossibly terrible tragedy.
