Is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFKJr.) seriously selecting Nicole Shanahan as his running mate? We’ll find out this afternoon.
If so, I have another question: has RFKJr. joined the Donald Trump campaign staff? I ask that because if he picks Shanahan he might as well have.
Why would I say this? Because Nicole Shanahan, apart from being a big RFKJr. supporter, is an uber-rich, hard-left, San Francisco Techie/Lawyer. With her on board RFKJr. has unlimited funds to run a presidential campaign…
…and Shanahan, with her “woke” credentials and mega $$$, will almost certainly win a large segment of the far-left crowd that Biden (and a good many other Democrats) cannot win elections without.
Until now, the only reasons this segment of the voting population would stick with Biden are that a) they don’t have an alternative and b) that since Biden is pretty much controlled by hard-left backbenchers they get a lot of what they want from him.
But if Shanahan is the prime mover of RFKJr’s race, it will split the hard-left vote between them, maybe even giving RFKJr. the larger share…
while Trump’s voters remain intact.
So what would Biden have to do? He either would have to concede the hard-left vote and try to present himself as more moderate – which means he loses even more hard-left votes…or lurch further left to retain them – which means he loses a ton of moderate votes.
Bill Clinton was the single most effective politician I ever saw. And I don’t think he could come close to figuring out a way to square this circle.
And Joe Biden not only is no Bill Clinton – never came close on the best day of his political life – but is so cognitively challenged at this point that I don’t know if he could run an effective campaign unopposed.
So, if things stay as they are (i.e. Biden vs. Trump, vs. RFKJr./Shanahan), it seems to me, one of two things are going to happen: either Joe Biden loses big-time in November or the Democrat Party finds a way to get rid of BIden before then (to me, the most likely scenario) and put up someone more able to handle this political horror show…
…except who would it be? I can’t think of anyone. Frankly, I doubt Houdini could have handled this one.
