NICHOLAS SANDMANN II?

Remember Nicholas Sandmann?

He was the Covington (Kentucky) high school student who, with other classmates, was at a pro-life event in Washington D.C. and was accosted by “nathan phillips” (his actual real name was nathan stanard), the Native American “Vietnam veteran” (a lie, despite his claims he wasn’t one), who banged a drum in his face and chanted something that, I suppose, we were to believe was deep and meaningful?

Sandmann did nothing but stand there with a half smile and wait phillips out.  But mainstream media went after him with everything they had, accusing him – with nothing to back it up –  of being a racist….

…which resulted in Sandmann suing, and receiving huge settlements from, CNN, The Washington Post, and NBCUniversal.

That was idiotic, wasn’t it.  And we learn from idiocy, don’t we?  So it doesn’t happen again, does it?

Well, actually, that is not the way things always work

From Alastair Talbot’s article for London’s Daily Mail, we have this:

A young Kansas City Chiefs fan accused of ‘blackface’ has described the reaction to the claims as ‘scary’ after a reporter branded his face paint ‘racist’, despite being a Native American himself.

Holden Armenta and his father, Bubba, were interviewed on Wednesday to respond to Deadspin reporter Carron J. Phillips’ allegations that the nine-year-old was driving hate to both ‘black people and Native Americans at the same time.’

Phillips, a Pulitzer nominee, initially shared a photo of the young boy with only half of his face painted in black before more pictures surfaced that showed Holden wearing half red and half black paint on his face, on social media.

Here is a picture of little Holden taken during the game.  Not the side vew referenced by Phillips….

Holden Armenta in a Native Headress is accused by Deadspin of "doubling up on racism."

…but his full face:

Holden has described the reaction to the 'blackface' allegations as a little scary (seen, Sunday)

And, yes, those are the team colors of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Personally, I think the kid looks ridiculous.  If I were his father I would be embarrassed to take him to a football game in that kind of outfit and with that kind of facial makeup.

But the claim that this was some kind of racial incident?  Yeah, right.  Sure.  Uh….welcome to Nicholas Sandmann II.

Oh, and in case you think the writer, Carron J. Phillips, is appropriately contrite or remorseful, you might be interested in his reaction to the news that this was a 9 year old Native American who did nothing other than paint his face with the team’s colors:

Phillips doubled down on accusations, saying Holden's' red face paint 'makes it even worse'

I think that qualifies as the definition of doubling down.

Now, I wonder if young Holden Armenta, presumably through his family, will sue.  Hey, why not?  9 year olds don’t have many chances to get rich quick.  And, in the tradition of Nicholas Sandmann, this just might be his.

We’ll see….
