PUBLIC SCHOOL INSANITY

Ken Berwitz

Did you hear the one about the 13 year old boy who, on a dare, kissed a 14 year old girl?

Well, you\’re going to.  Because the 13 year old boy is being charged with assault.  ASSAULT.  And, no, I am not making this up..

From Robby Soave\’s article at reason.com:

A Pikesville, Maryland, 13-year-old will be charged withsecond-degree assault for kissing a 14-year-old girl on a dare. The”assault” happened at Pikesville Middle School on Friday. Police werecalled to the scene.

According to WBFF:  School officials took a report regarding a13-year-old boy who kissed a 14-year-old girl during school hours. The unwantedkiss was allegedly the result of a dare made by students.

Police confirm that the boy is now facing a second-degreeassault charge as a juvenile. No one was injured during the incident, policesay, and disciplinary actions related to suspension or expulsion will behandled by the school system.

It wasn\’t enough to warn the 13 year old.  Or maybe give him a day or two of detention.  No, that would not be enough for such a heinous crime as kissing a girl.  The police were called, and he is being charged with assault.

For stealing a kiss?????????????????????

What would they have done if he touched her breast?  Is the electric chair still legal in Maryland?

It saddens me to point out that this insane overreaction is exactly the kind of crap that we have come to expect in public school systems.  What ever happened to common sense and proportion?  Or is that no longer part of the Pikesville Middle School curriculum?
